New cover of the AT&T phone book features Pony Express Sesquicentennial.....

AT&T, the St. Joseph Convention & Visitors Bureau and local dignitaries unveiled the new cover of the Yellow Pages on June 29, 2010, at the Patee House Museum featuring the Pony Express Sesquicentennial.

phone book 2010

This year the St. Joseph community has had many celebrations to commemorate the 150 year anniversary of the Pony Express, which began in St. Joseph, Mo., in 1860.  And today was another celebration...the Sesquicentennial is featured on the cover of the new AT&T Real Yellow Pages directories serving the St. Joseph area. More than 70,000 copies of the directories have been produced for distribution in the area this year. Delivery is will begin later this week, and will last approximately four weeks. The directory also will be available to new residents and businesses throughout the year.

St Joseph Phone Book Unveiled

The announcement is exciting news because the phone book will put the anniversary out there in front of the community for another year!   It will be a reminder to local citizens as well as to our visitors each time they use the directory.

AT&T Advertising Solutions was proud to feature the anniversary of the Pony Express on the cover.  They continually work to make the directory covers special on the outside and include community information inside to best meet the needs of local residents and businesses.

Spendin-Time-On-The-Mighty-MO-June 26 2010....St Joseph MO

Missouri River

The Missouri River Relief is a grassroots, volunteer and equipment-based organization dedicated to reconnecting people to the Missouri River through hands-on river clean-ups and education events.  The organization was formed in 2001 and since then has hosted 55 Missouri River clean-ups, bringing 12,000 volunteers to clean 537 tons of trash from 588 miles of the river.  They have participated in and hosted clean-ups in six states, from the Mississippi River to Yankton, S.D.

River Clean-ups accomplish a few things; they connect people proactively in stewardship of the Missouri River, often putting people on the river for the first time. They also educate people about the problem of solid waste on our streams and rivers and physically bring interested parties together to accomplish something real.

St. Joseph is on the 2010 River Clean Up listVolunteers are needed to make this a success!  Volunteers will get a free boat ride to locations along the river to pick up as much trash as possible in the morning from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m.  Volunteers should wear sturdy boots or shoes and work and weather appropriate clothesBring sunscreen and bug spray T-shirts, work gloves, drinking water, reusable water bottles, life jackets, trash bags, tools, boat rides to clean up sites, and lunch will be provided

Benjamin-Franklin-Exhibit-On-Display-Rolling-Hills-Library-St Joseph MO 64506

Benjamin Franklin Exhibit at the Rolling Hills Library

 May 18- July 30, 2010

Many years of hard work felt worth it when the Benjamin Franklin exhibit opened at the Belt Library Branch last week.  Over three years of dedication was spent in efforts to get the "Benjamin Franklin: In Search of a Better World" exhibit to St. Joseph, and over 11 months of planning and construction went into the opening of the new Annex in which the exhibit is housed in.  Both openings marked a happy ending to the hours of hard work but also a new beginning for the facility.

The exhibit features six sections of panels that detail Franklin's life and achievements.  It highlights his childhood days, his family and personal life, his public service, and his interested in medicine, science and his political career.  The exhibit is open to the public Monday-Friday from 1-8pm and Saturday and Sunday from 1-5pm.  During the time the traveling exhibit is in town the library will sponsor many other Ben Franklin activities such as Franklin crafts, story times, re-enactors, and more.

Traveling exhibits have become more popular over the past few years, bringing history and museum like settings to different cities.  This gives local communities the opportunity to see exhibits with out traveling long distances to do so.  I encourage you all to stop by the Rolling Hills Library in St. Joseph, MO to check out this exhibit, it will be a unique experience that you won't want to miss!

Please visit http://rhcl.org/ for more details on the Benjamin Franklin exhibit currently housed in St. Joseph, MO.

St Joseph-Mustangs-Let's-Play-Baseball-St Joseph MO 64506

                  St Joseph Mustangs

The St. Joseph Mustangs fire up for another winning season!  Games will kick off this week starting off another great year.  St. Joseph has always been a baseball town and the Mustangs are bringing it back!!!

Home to the Saints for 10 years and then sold to the Blacksnakes, St. Joseph has always had a love for baseball and the Mustangs have brought back that flavor!  Ready to kick off another wonderful year with great promotions and showing St. Joseph a great time for all!

General Manager Dan Gerson was approached a few years ago to bring it back and he did just that.  The first season saw many ideas and promotions implemented that worked well.  Adding many local college players to the roster turned out to make MVP's and MOP's from home.

The new party deck sponsored many corporate outings and got the locals very excited for that ‘first class' experience.  Most importantly they made it reasonable for everyone to attend, offering free parking, $1.00 hotdogs, $2.00 beers, and events planned almost every home game.

The inaugural season saw the Mustangs 12-0 at home and they finished 21-3 at home.  With the majority of the 2009 team returning for 2010 it will be another great season for the St. Joseph Mustangs!!!
