Last week while showing homes to the Minton family who are relocating to St Joseph,
we took a break and visited Kris & Kate's Old Fashioned Ice Cream Shoppe.
Their twin 5 year old daughters Tara & Cara immediately liked the
BIG PINK ICE CREAM CONE BUILDING and had quite a time in selecting which one of the
ice cream treats from the menu as their choice.
Kris and her daughter Erica offer a warm welcome to customers at the fun family oriented store.

Kris & Kate's Ice Cream shoppe offers special parking for Harley's, volleyball nets, sand-pits for the kids along with the-best-selection-of-ice cream-treats to be enjoyed at picnic tables or at the gazebo area while listening to the goldie oldie music.
Kris & Kate's Ice Cream Treats is located at Belt Highway and 36th Street

Ralph: Thanks for joining us in visiting Kris & Kates family business in St Joseph! I love to share the local businesses in our great city. America is made of Small Business, isn't it?

Everyone should stop by it is well worth a visit! :)
Hi Jen! Welcome to my blog about St Joseph....I agree, Kris & Kates is just one of several reasons why St Joseph and the local community is so blessed to have these and many other small businesses. I like the Chamber of Commerce slogan "Shop St Joseph".
Dona,
I love these types of buildings. No guessing about what they offer!
Ann
Hi Ann: This is such a cool building isn't it, and no doubt Ice Cream is the speciality of today! Makes me want some of their ice cream just talking about it.
Great Localism post -- looks like a fun place to visit.
Congratulations!!! You have posted the first blog here on ActiveRain for the new year!!!
Happy New Year!!!
Michael
Hi Michael, Happy New Year to you and the best in 2010! I was watching the fireworks display from my window along with visiting friends here on Active Rain when I made the post.
Michael, Wow, A FEATURE! I did not even notice it when I first left a comment. That word is rarely seen on my Localism post here and I am TRULY honored. Thank You!
Dona, This is a fantastic way to spotlight local businesses on Localism! You should mail a card to the owner with the link to veiw this post--or email them if you have an email address for them--could get you some good old complimentary ice cream!!
Happy New Year!
Why do I want ice cream all of a sudden!! Great blog, and what a nice place to take your peeps.
Why did you have to bring up ice cream? LOL! Now I want some and it's too early for me to break my resolution.
wow - that is so cool, 2am in the morning here and now I want ice cream
Great photo.....need to get some ice cream now, Thanks.
Dont you just love the mom and pop operations that are an institution in the town. Town...a word used more in the midwest than anywhere else, I am from Wisconsin and my aunt lives in Missouri. We love the dairy queen in our town where I grew up and have fond memories of the sunday drive to get an ice cream. Thanks for sharing.
Reminds me of a time when resturants had to take on character to sell. Funny with the late model car in the picture. Car compainies at one time had to look unique (much like the building)
Thanks
Tony
They don't make um like this anymore, probably because you couldn't get past the city's rules and regs. I am going to look for places like these in Oklahoma, thanks for the idea.
That's a hoot! Makes you want to scoot right on over there and check it out!
Dona,
I don't care if it IS winter. This looks wonderful! Thanks for a great Localism post.
Mike in Tucson
Reminds me of little league baseball back in the 1950's. If someone on the team hit a home run or made a specacular play, after the game you got ince cream in your root beer, or a chocolate covered dip cone. Thank you for bringing back that delicious memory. FYI, I still drink root beer floats.
What a fun little place. Would love to take my twins there too. Maybe next time we are in your area.
I would bet there is a lot of history attached to this unique ice cream stand, wonderful photo!
Dona - I think I would also have a tough time deciding! Looks terrific!
thanks

I really love some good ice cream and that is a very unique building.
Wow! I am so excited to be FEATURED! It is going to take a little while but I will respond to each one of your comments as I truly appreciate ALL OF THEM!
Debe! Thank You! I am going to call Erica & Kristommorrow and share the Feature with them....and putting St Joseph in the limelight.! Special Thanks for your help along the way!
Carla! Ice Cream from Kris & Kates happens to be one of my almost daily stops! Once you been there you will always go back.
Kim: There is some New Years resolutions that are O.K. to break, Ice Cream along with chocolate it is alright to bend the rule a little. lol~
Randall, Kris & Kate is a cool place right in the middle of everywhere in St Joseph! I was eating Ice Cream when I posted this at 1:00 am this morning, time is unimportant when it comes to Ice Cream.
Chuck! Ice Cream is kind of like Jello.....always room for more, isn't it? Have a great 2010!
Terrylynne: What town does your aunt live in? Mom & Pop operations make up a very large part of local businesses in St Joseph, and I try to visit them as often as possible. Kris & Kates is always convenient when traveling all directions in St Joseph. ~lol~
Bob & Caroline: I love to tell about St Joseph and I enjoy reading other Localism posts about their City also, don't you? St Joseph is a great place to live and raise a family!
Dona , ice cream always gets my attention and I would definity stop here !!! Put this on AR Foodaholics !
Well deserved, Dona! I can't wait to hear their response! Congrats on the Feature too.
Tony, The car was going through the drive up window when I snapped the photo. They do have old car shows there occasionaly in the summer and even cycles. Unfornately, these small businesses most likely will have to do a lot of different advertising in the future.
Tom! It really is nice when folks around the country can take a drive of local business on the interenet. I bet Oklahoma has a lot of these little small businesses, don't they?
Cheryl, I think I will wait awhile as the temperture didn't get above 20 day and Friday's suppose to be -2 for the high. Could you come in the summer? I would love to take you there!
Mike: Love the background in your picture profile, that is cool! It is certainly not a good day today to visit as it is way to cold. I look forward to seeing you again, real soon.
Joe, There is always a baseball team there in the summer and glad you mentioned that. It does take us back a few years doesn't it? Root Beer floats, haven't had one of them for a long time! I love to tell about my area and look forward to reading about your area also.
Angelica, Next time you come this way, please be sure and let me know as I would love to show you St Joseph with the twins. They would love it here, so much for kids and families to do all the time. Hope you have a great 2010!
Mary, I am not for sure about all the history of the building, except it came from a warmer climate and does not have any heat so they are only open the summer months and used to be dark brown, it certainly looks so good with lighter colors, doesn't it!
Jason, The girls really had a difficult time in their choice also. I seem to follow you all over the internet any more and certainly honored you stopped by! I am sure you had a fun time with your kids at Christmas, when they are little they want everything! ~lol~ Best to you in 2010!
Gary: I love your positive blogs and all those beautiful photos you find, they are great! Hope it is much warmer there than here, as this week the frigid temps is going 0 and below. We may need to wait another day for ice cream! Happy New Year to you also!
Nick~Your welcome! Have a blessed New Years.
James, The building is unusual isn't it? It's pretty obvious on what they are selling. I am sure you have many unusal buildings in your city also.
Michael, I didn't realize we had that channel here, I need to check it out but that is all I need is to be around more food right after the holidays. lol
Debe, when you hang around some of the best their is here on AR, it gets a little easier. Thanks for stopping back by.....
Dona,
Love the building and ICE CREAM! I can eat it even in the cold winter.
Ann Hayden in Wildwood, MO
Anne, The weather is so frigid in Mo right now it has almost ruined my appetite. (notice I said almost) Hope you are off to a great 2010 and look forward to seeing you again.
Dona,
How is the ice cream here? Do they make specialty flavors?
Ann Hayden feeling as cold as ice cream in Wildwood, MO
Hi Ann, Kris & Kates Old Fashioned Ice Cream is scrumptious with large choice of flavors. I am like you, Missouri needs to get out of the FREEZING zone! I bet we never hear someone complain about HOT it is this summer, speaking of summer sounds like you and me are both ready!
Dona,
Oh I see people complaining about all sorts of things... The heat will be an issue...but at least in Missouri if you wait for while the weather will change...;-)
Ann Hayden in Wildwood, MO
Ann:) I agree! Love the 4 seasons of Missouri! Some seasons better than others (lol)
